Welcome

Quba

Thank you for visiting.

My practice involves exploring colour, form, texture, and luminosity. I enjoy capturing rural and seasonal colourscapes, and I use a precise paper-inlay technique with watercolour or acrylic to create complex geometric shapes.

The technique I use involves creating sheets of graduated or textured paper. This enables me to hand-cut the shapes I need from the best area of the paper. For Quba (above), I created sheets ranging from light red/orange to dark red-black and then cut the shapes I needed from the best area. I then identified the most impactful hue for the background and painted a large watercolour sheet of graduated blue.  I hand-cut around the shape to create an exact fit. This is an intense process, but it becomes almost meditative as I stroke my scalpel across the paper's fibres.

My most recent works are displayed under 'current works', and this is updated weekly. The paintings are all for sale, so please enquire if you are interested in a piece. The 'gallery' contains works going back over the past 20 years.
