I love colour and create luminous paintings that explore how colour changes and reacts depending on the colours next to it. I often use a negative painting technique, building up layers of transparent glazes before switching to opaque paint to create the background and bring the light back into the work.

Other paintings are those created for demonstration purposes or at workshops.

My prices are based on the complexity and time involved in creating a painting, and my work is supplied, framed and ready to hang.

Falling Water

This work emerged as part of my investigation into the ways of creating or enhancing luminosity in artworks. For this painting, I was particularly exploring glazing and layering. I worked almost entirely with transparent oil pigments, using warmer and cooler tones to create the visual vibration that gives additional luminosity.

The painting is one of several works focused on a series of limestone waterfalls at Hirwaun on the River Hepste, in Wales. I wanted to capture the movement and light at golden hour, when the verdant foliage merged with the reflective water.
