Falling Water
Oil on Board

This work emerged as part of my investigation into the ways of creating or enhancing luminosity in artworks. For this painting, I was particularly exploring wet-into-wet glazing and layering. I worked almost entirely with transparent oil pigments, using warmer and cooler tones to create the visual vibration that gives additional luminosity.
The painting is one of several works focused on a series of limestone waterfalls at Hirwaun on the River Hepste, in Wales. I wanted to capture the movement and light at golden hour, when the verdant foliage merged with the reflective water.
